WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Briefcase of Juris P. Prudence is a pretty small book with a big message of what one can do with hard work and determination.
"You can absolutely do anything that you want," said Jessica Childress, author.
The main character is 11-year-old Juris P. Prudence, who is also pictured on the book's cover. A few years shy of her teenage years, Prudence is already a lawyer who wants to extend voting rights to other kids. The other characters in the book come from diverse backgrounds which gives the quick read a local flare.
"I wanted to write a book about a little girl that is smart, spunky, and resourceful," said Childress, who recently watched a story on WUSA9 about Center City Public Charter School-Petworth.
The author said the story she watched on about the school's need for culturally relevant books motivated her to donate 15 copies of her book to the school.
"It was really cool for her [Jessica Childress] to reach out to use and offer Juris Prudence. The kids are already into it and are reading it," said Ms. Katie Waters, a teacher at Center City PCS-Petworth.
