WASHINGTON — Crews extinguished a fire in Northwest D.C. that officials believe was started by a battery in an electric skateboard.

According to DC Fire and Rescue, the fire happened in the 2800 block of Woodley Road NW due to an electric skateboard catching fire in the fourth-floor hallway.

Two residents were evaluated by EMS and did not require further medical attention.

Hazmat was requested due to the lithium-ion battery inside the electric skateboard. The Hazmat unit removed the battery and secured it for safe and proper disposal.
