WASHINGTON (AP) - The Kennedy Center says the price tag for its first major expansion has risen to nearly $120 million - but it has already raised enough money to pay for it.
The center announced Monday that it's raised $136 million for expansion efforts. The initial goal was $125 million. Now, the center is setting a new goal of $175 million.
The money that doesn't go directly to design and construction will go to programming and other expenses related to the expansion.
The center broke ground on the expansion late last year. It's scheduled to be finished in September 2018.
New donors announced Monday include candy company heir Jacqueline Badger Mars and businessman Stephen Schwarzman and his wife, Christine. Mars and the Schwarzmans each donated $10 million.
