Makiyah's grandmother, Pandora Wilson wanted to following statement to be public.
"I strongly believe that we as a community have to stop protecting people who have no respect for life. We are not doing ourselves any justice by remaining silent and allowing people to kill our kids with no remorse. I pray that one day they will realize how beautiful and precious life is, words can't describe the pain my family and I feel losing my grandbaby. Please, please stop killing each other in the name of revenge because y'all only leave your love ones and everyone else with heartache and pain
No one wins."
Six people have been arrested in connection with Makiyah's murder.
