WASHINGTON — Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling was swarmed with increased security on Friday morning.
D.C. police were called to assist the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling police following a report on the base.
Officials from Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling said they looked into the report and determined there was no issue but decided to have increased security for caution.
Officers shut down lanes on South Capitol Street and Malcolm X Street Southeast in both directions which have since been reopened.
People near the base told WUSA9 D.C. police officers were instructing drivers to not go on base during the increased security measure.
Officials said there was never a lockdown on their premises and all gates are open.
Just last month, an aviation student shot and killed three people at the Naval Air Station Pensacola.
Authorities say 12 people were hurt, four of whom died, including the shooter. Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said that two of the 12 injured were deputies who had been the first to respond. He said one deputy was shot in the arm, the other in the knee, and that both are expected to recover.
Police learned that the shooter was a member of the Saudi military who was training at the base.
Before that incident, a sailor opened fire and killed two civilian employees before taking his own life at U.S. Naval base in Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
