'This is not over:' Howard U sit-in continues through weekend as 1968 alumni show support

An alumni told WUSA9 that former students who protested in 1968 on campus are coming in to support students.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — Howard University students are spending their Easter weekend still camping out in the Administration Building following an embezzlement scandal.

Two students came out at around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday to say they're still in discussions with the board of trustees and will not leave the building until their demands are met. They say that some students from neighboring schools, including American University, have joined them.

Their demands still include the resignation of the president of the university.

"We love Howard University...we're black students, we came here for a reason, we want to uphold the legacy of this university," one of the protesters said on Saturday, explaining why students are continuing the protest.

Students met with two Board of Trustee members on Friday night, but were upset when the trustees instead threw their support to the president, who students want out.

This year, marks 50 years since the historic protest at Howard University. An alumni from the 1968 protest tells WUSA9 that alumni from all over the country will be coming today to support students of #huresist.
