WASHINGTON -- During this busy holiday season, City Dogs Rescue is asking local residents to give their animals a gift: A foster home.
The organization wrote on Twitter Monday that during the holiday season, many of their foster families are traveling. That’s why they’re asking potential foster parents to help take in dogs or cats in need.
Becoming a foster requires a minimum two week commitment, but the shelter says on their website that many dogs are adopted within a couple of months or more.
The shelter will provide pre-approved vetting, an “Adopt Me” vest, a leash, collar, crate and supplies as needed. The shelter says you can keep all dogs up until adoption, if you choose, and is requesting that all cats are kept up until adoption.
Some animals need homes ASAP, like Abby, an adorable beagle mix who suffers from anxiety (the shelter says they’ll set up a trainer to help Abby with management) or Darwin, a 2-year-old cat seeking an immediate foster.
Some of the cats, like Tiffany, a 1-year-old, needs only temporary fostering through the holidays.
Other dogs, like Cody, a 6-month Shepherd mix, need homes by certain dates. Cody, who the shelter says is great with other dogs, needs one by December 21. Or, you can help Freddie, a 2-year-old tabby, recover from a recent leg amputation when he needs a foster home on December 29.
The shelter asks potential foster parents to disclose if they plan on traveling so they can make the necessary arrangements.
The shelter is located at 2121 Decatur Place, Northwest in Washington, D.C.
