WASHINGTON -- At the White House Saturday, the flag was lowered to half staff in honor of 41. Folks from all over the country gave their thoughts on the passing of a president that some are calling a humble servant:
"When I think of George H.W. Bush, I think of someone who dedicated his entire life to politics in the best way. He made government work, he was in intelligence. He was in Congress and President, and presided over the end of the Cold War. He always tried to make government work for people. We can admire that, and we did," said John Cook of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
"He was a compromiser, he was a person willing to listen, talk. He made decisions based on the needs of the country and that is missing from today. And his passing makes me reflect on that," said Joseph Gill of Stafford Virginia.
"Obviously a great family man. I think he was a bit of a jokester," said Sharon Turner of St. Louis, Missouri.
"I'm not sad because he lived a long and blessed life. He did what he thought was good for the country and succeeded. He's a blessed man who had a good life and has passed on," said Cook.
President George H.W. Bush will most likely lie in state at the US Capitol Rotunda, an honor most recently bestowed on Senator John McCain.
