WASHINGTON — A student at George Washington University has died and police are investigating. Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to 2100 block of F Street Northwest for the investigation just before noon on Tuesday.

Metropolitan Police Department officers identified the student as 21-year-old Sarah Levitt of Scarsdale, New York. They have not said how Levitt died.

In a letter addressed to the GWU community, the university said it was deeply saddened to report the loss of a student.

"On behalf of our entire university, we extend our deepest condolences to the student’s family and friends," the letter reads. It goes on to say that Staff members in the Division for Student Affairs are offering assistance to those closely affected, and there are additional on-call crisis counseling services available by calling 877-841-1080.

The university is offering resources for students through Counseling and Psychological Services and to staff through the Employee Assistance Program.

"The loss of one of our own will be felt by many across our GW community. At this difficult time, please come together and continue to support and take care of one another," the university writes in its letter.
