WASHINGTON — Crews are working to put out a fire that sparked near the Fort Totten Metro Station Friday night.
According to DC Fire and EMS, firefighters were called to the 5001 block of Fort Totten Drive, Northeast, for a fire shortly before 9:30 p.m. The large fire was located outside at the Fort Totten Solid Waste Disposal Transfer Station, on Bates Road Northeast, and no structures are involved.
DC Fire and EMS say crews used large-diameter water streams to surround and knock down the fire. The fire was extinguished around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, around three hours after the initial dispatch. No injuries were reported.
There is no word on what caused the fire at this time.
Pictures of the fire shared with WUSA9 show a large plume of smoke coming from the flames near the Fort Totten Metro Station.
