Fire at Southeast DC apartment building leaves woman with critical injuries

No details have been released about what might have caused the fire.

WASHINGTON — One woman is suffering from serious injuries after a fire at a Southeast D.C. apartment building Tuesday morning.

DC Fire and EMS responded to Falls Terrace Southeast just after 7:40 a.m. after a fire broke out at a two-story apartment building. Upon arrival, firefighters found one victim on the first floor and she was removed from the building.

According to an 8:02 a.m. update on the fire department's social media page, the fire was knocked down in the apartment located on the first floor and it didn't extend to any other locations in the building. Just before 8:30 a.m. it was announced that the fire was officially under control.

The woman who was found injured in the fire was taken to a local trauma center to be treated for critical injuries. No additional information has been released about the woman's identity or what might have caused the blaze.
