WASHINGTON — DC Police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly shot at a car, with a baby inside of it, on a local highway.
The incident happened around 9 a.m., Thursday, along southbound I-295, near Joint Base Anacostia Boling.
Leon Vessels said his 11-month-old son, Legend, happened to be strapped into his car seat when another driver in a black Mitsubishi Mirage began to aggressively tailgate their car.
Vessels said one of his tires was a donut, so he decided to drive slower than normal on the highway.
“That guy gets behind us, clearly, because I'm not driving fast enough,” he said.
Vessels said the man then pulled up to the side of his car before firing multiple times at it.
He said two bullets hit his son’s car seat.
“The only thing that damaged him was the glass from the shooting,” Vessels said. “He had a little cut on his head.”
Moments later, Vessels sped away to get his son to safety. He said he drove toward South Capitol where he would ultimately find a police officer to assist him.
Residents that know anything about the whereabouts of the driver who shot at Vessels’ car can call the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or text them a tip to 50411.
“Now this guy has to worry about his conscience,” Vessels said.
