Officer bit by dog while responding to help another man with dog bite injuries

The dog has not yet been located. It unknown if the dog was hit by gunfire.

WASHINGTON — An investigation is underway in Northeast, D.C. after an officer was bitten by a dog while responding to a call for service regarding another victim suffering from dog bite injuries. 

At 11:07 a.m. on Wednesday, officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call for service in the 4200 block of Foote Street, NE. At the scene, officers found an adult suffering from dog bite injuries. 

Preliminarily, it is believed that a responding officer was also bitten by the dog and fired their weapon.

At this time, it is unknown if the dog was hit by the gunfire as officers have not located the dog. 

Investigators say both the officer and victim who were bitten were taken to area hospitals for help after the attack.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
