WASHINGTON — It might be cool outside, but for parents in D.C., it is already time to start planning for when it starts warming up -- specifically summer plans for the kids.
On Feb. 12, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation's Summer Camp Lottery will open.
If you are ready to start marking the calendar with plans, there will be two virtual information sessions Wednesday to help. There will be one at noon and another at 6:30 p.m., which will last for an hour.
The lottery will open on Monday and run through Feb. 26. People will be notified if they were selected in the random lottery selection by March 1, with a deadline to confirm the camp slot by March 6.
The lottery is broken up into two age brackets, ages 3-10 and 11-13.
The camp offerings include signature camps, sports camps, specialty camps, and therapeutic recreation for children with special needs. Sports camps includes options of focusing on basketball skills, cheerleading and gymnastics, as well as a multi-sport option. Specialty camps include focuses on swimming activities and safety, STEAM, culinary skills, as well as performing arts.
The dates for the camps are broken down into four sessions. Here's the dates:
- Session 1: June 26 - July 5 (no camp on July 4)
- Session 2: July 8 - July 19
- Session 3: July 22 - August 2
- Session 4: August 5 - August 16
