DC delays closing select outdoor pools, spray parks. Here's what you need to know

Several spray parks and some of the District's outdoor pools will remain open beyond Labor Day.

WASHINGTON — Good news for folks looking to stay cool while out and about in the District: The city's spray parks and select outdoor pools will remain open beyond Labor Day this year.

Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), and the DC Department of General Services (DGS), made the announcement Tuesday, that select locations will remain open until Sunday, Sept. 22. Originally, all outdoor pools and spray parks were scheduled to close for the season on Labor Day.

“We are excited to provide residents outdoor pool options in addition to our indoor pools to close out the summer season,” DPR Director Thennie Freeman said. “The locations that will remain open were selected to be most equitable to residents with one pool on both sides of the city and all DPR spray parks.”

The outdoor pools listed below will remain open six days a week, from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.:

  • Hearst Pool (3701 37th Street, NW)
  • Oxon Run Pool (501 Mississippi Avenue, SE)
