WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA9) -- Drivers who think they know Suitland Parkway are getting hit with nasty speed camera fines at a spot where the speed is set ten miles per hour lower than the other.

"DC government is scamming drivers with speed camera's [sic] by setting the speed limit 10 mph slower in locations where red light and speed camera's are set up," said Cris Ludwig in a complaint e-mail to WUSA9. "The only reason to have the difference in speed limit at these locations is to purge as much money from drivers as possible."

WUSA9 asked multiple D.C. agencies to explain why the speed limits would be set different on the same street at Suitland Parkway and Stanton Road SE., but not one agency could explain.

An official with the Metropolitan Police Department said the agency has had the same enforcement at the location for 10 years.

MPD stated the agency is in charge of enforcement but doesn't set speed limits.

A Department of Public Works official said DPW doesn't control any elements of D.C. speed cameras while an official at the District Department of Transportation said the agency couldn't immediately provide an explanation of its role or why there is a speed limit difference.
