WASHINGTON — Police are investigating a shooting near a D.C. elementary school Monday morning. The school has been placed on lockdown while the investigation continues.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the sound of gunshots around 11:30 a.m. An officer in the area witnessed the shooting and a vehicle believed to be involved was found in the 1600 block of G Street Northeast, near Miner Elementary School.
Investigators found a man shot nearby. He was taken to the hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
DC Public Schools officials say Miner Elementary School was on lockdown Monday afternoon. Several streets in the area are also shutdown due to police activity, including 15th Street between F Street and Benning Road NE, 14th Street between F Street and G Street NE, and 16th Street and Kramer Street Northeast.
Police have not said what may have led up to the shooting, and so far no arrests have been made. Information about the person responsible for the shooting has not yet been made public.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
