WASHINGTON — DC Council has passed a bill that brings more transparency to job hunting. Bill B25-0194, known as the "Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023," now requires all job postings in the District to include the salary range, among other protections.
Job candidates cannot be asked about their current salaries under the new legislation. It would also require private employers of 25 employees or more persons to disclose the schedule of benefits to prospective employees.
The bill amends the Wage Transparency Act of 2014.
"Under current law, employees are protected against retaliation by any sized employer for the sole reason of discussing wages with other employees," the bill reads. "The underlying legislation makes several changes to employee protections and employer responsibilities regarding the discussion and disclosure of employee compensation."
The bill, first introduced by Councilmember Anita Bonds in March, passed a second and final vote in the Council on Tuesday and now heads to Mayor Muriel Bowser for review.
