WASHINGTON — A Metropolitan Police Department officer has been arrested after it was discovered he was working as a grocery store security guard while on duty as a police officer.
Agents with MPD's Internal Affairs Division arrested 35-year-old Marc Davis and charged him with first degree fraud. According to investigators, between Aug. 27, 2021, and June 7, 2023, Davis allegedly worked as a uniformed security guard at a Giant Foods store on Alabama Avenue Southeast at the same time he was meant to be patrolling D.C.'s Seventh District.
Davis has been with the department since 2014. His police powers were revoked on June 12, 2023 as a result of the investigation.
Court documents show that Davis had applied for outside employment at the Giant store in 2017, but allegations of fraud were brought in May. Internal Affairs investigators got access to Davis's time cards at Giant as well as surveillance video that matched up with times he was meant to be on duty with the police department.
The documents say records acquired by Internal Affairs showed that on a total of 193 separate dates, totally 991 hours and 48 minutes, Davis was working as a Giant security guard while on duty.
"The actions of this individual do not represent the values of the Metropolitan Police Department. We hold our employees to the highest standards of accountability and we are grateful to the Internal Affairs Bureau for diligently investigating this incident," a police department spokesperson said in a statement.
This is not the first time a DC Police officer has been busted for working a second job while on duty. Medgar Webster Sr. pleaded guilty last year to fraud after it was discovered he was working security jobs at two Whole Foods stores in D.C.
