ASHBURN, Va. — After years of waiting, the new Silver Line Metro extension is finally open. For most people that means another option for getting to Dulles International Airport and elsewhere, for one D.C. man, it means a chance at a spot in the record books.
Lucas Wall, a D.C.-based travel writer is going for the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to travel to all D.C. Metro stations. The previous record was set by Scott Bennett, who accomplished the feat in just under eight hours. That record has stood since 2019, according to the Guinness Book's website.
Now, the Silver Line's new stations have put Bennett's record in the past. Wall said he's taking on the challenge on the first day of fully expanded service to get a jump on any potential competition.
In order to secure the record, Wall must pass through all 96 Metro stations in as short a time as possible using only transit and feet. Taking buses and walking between rail stations is permitted, but not biking, driving, or riding in a car.
Wall will start his journey at the new Ashburn Station on the Silver Line and ending at Franconia-Springfield Station on the Blue Line. This routing has 14 segments, including two bus connections, with 34 repeated stations.
