WASHINGTON — A D.C. man has been sentenced to seven years for assaulting two women, at two separate metro stations just days apart from each other.
40-year-old Christopher Wade, was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty back in August. Wade’s crimes left commuters worried for their safety, following the two attacks.
On the evening of June 25, Wade targeted a woman who was alone on the escalator, entering the Eastern Market Metro Station. Wade was lurking at the bottom of the escalator waiting for the victim. When she reached the bottom, Wade approached her with a knife, demanding all her belongings. He made off with her phone and other property.
Then five days later, on June 30, Wade attacked another woman, this time at the Potomac Avenue Metro Station. Wade approached the second victim from behind while she was on the escalator, grabbed her by her neck, and demanded her belongings. Afterwards, Wade stabbed her in the arm and pushed her down the escalator.
Surveillance footage from the stations played a critical role in solving these cases. Metro Transit Police used it to identify Wade as the suspect, which led to his arrest on July 1.
