WASHINGTON — A DC man will spend the next five years behind bars after he attempted to kidnap a 17-year-old girl from near a Metro station last year.
According to the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, 38-year-old Donte Johnson was sentenced Friday to 60 months in prison on one count of kidnapping.
In May 2023, the 17-year-old victim was taking Metro to get home from work. She exited the Deanwood Metro Center on Minnesota Ave. Northeast, where her mom and sisters were waiting to pick her up in their car. When the teen was crossing the street to get to the vehicle, Johnson came up from behind her and wrapped his arm around her neck.
The teen attempted to fight Johnson off, but he pulled her to the ground and pressed his body weight on top of her. Johnson began to pull the victim's pants down when two strangers came to her aid. The pair of eyewitnesses pulled Johnson off the teen.
Johnson was still at the scene when police arrived and arrested him. In September 2023, Johnson pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping.
In addition to the 60-month sentence, Johnson will be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years after his release from prison. He must also serve five years of supervised release.
