WASHINGTON — A D.C. man is under arrest for murder after allegedly stabbing and killing a man before barricading himself inside a home and setting it on fire. Sherman Holley, 46, was indicted Wednesday for the deadly stabbing of James Brook, Jr. that took place in January.
The indictment charges Holley with first-degree premeditated murder while armed, arson, resisting arrest, and related offenses, all committed while Holley was on pretrial release.
According to evidence, on Jan. 15, Holley stabbed Brooks, Jr. multiple times in the chest while the men were walking together through an alleyway near a Southeast D.C. home where Holley had been living. Brooks, Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Holley fled but returned to the home the next day. When police responded, Holley barricaded himself inside the home and, after a multiple-hour standoff with officers, set the home on fire before surrendering.
On Jan. 16, Holley was arrested for murder. He has been detained pending trial since his arrest.
At the time of this attack, authorities say Holley was on release pending trial in another felony case in Washington, D.C. This case is being investigated by members of MPD’s Homicide Branch. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles R. Jones.
