WASHINGTON — Dogs in D.C. are finally getting their chance to make a splash this weekend. The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has announced its annual "Doggie Day Swim" event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Admission is free to the single day event, but all dogs must have a valid and original DC Health issued dog license and tag to enter the pool. Photocopies will not be accepted.
Four public pools will allow your furry friends to get their paws wet:
- Langdon Park Pool at 2860 Mills Avenue NE
- Francis Pool at 2435 N Street NW
- Ridge Road Pool at 830 Ridge Road SE
- Upshur Pool at 4300 Arkansas Avenue NW
DPR says all dog owners must follow these rules:
- All dogs MUST have and wear a valid DC dog license.
- Dog handlers must be 16 years of age or older.
- Dog handlers cannot swim or enter the pool with their dogs.
- Dogs must be sociable and remain leashed while on the pool deck.
- All dogs must be current on vaccinations including rabies and distemper.
- All dogs must be spayed/neutered.
DPR encourages dog owners who are interested in the event but do not have a license and tag to submit their applications as soon as possible. The license application requires proof of current rabies and distemper vaccinations, as well as proof of spaying/neutering. Dog licenses must be completed in advance and no payments will be accepted on site. Dog licenses can be obtained here.
