DC, Baltimore Police to announce arrest made in 7-year-old shooting of off-duty police officer

The press conference is set to be held in Baltimore and will include multiple officials in attendance including DC Police Chief Pamela Smith.

BALTIMORE — The Metropolitan Police Department and Baltimore Police are holding a joint news conference Wednesday afternoon which, according to sources, could be a possible big break in a case. The topic of the case is said to be about the shooting death of an off-duty DC Police officer that happened seven years ago.

The Baltimore Banner is reporting that agencies will share news about an arrest made in the killing during the 1:30 p.m. presser.

The case involves 40-year-old DC Police Sergeant Tony Anthony Mason Jr.

Early in November 2017, around 12:45 a.m., officers were called to 2800 block of Elgin Avenue for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Mason suffering from gunshot wounds and a 43-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to the leg.

They both were taken to a hospital for treatment, where Mason later died.

They were sitting in a parked car when this happened. The unknown shooter approached them and began shooting. They then left the scene, leading the police on a 7-year search for the culprit.

The press conference is set to be held in Baltimore and will include multiple officials in attendance including DC Police Chief Pamela Smith.
