WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A fourth grade teacher at Oyster Adams Bilingual School in D.C. pleaded guilty to second-degree child sex abuse Friday, according to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
Giovanni Pena, 31, was charged with second-degree sexual abuse of a child on June 1st, stemming from an incident with a fourth grade student.
Pena taught fourth grade at Oyster Adams. He had worked there since 2008 and taught second and third grades as well.Pena was also the track and field coach as well as a mentor with the student government program. He won an Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award during the 2010-2011 school year, according to our news partners at the Washington Post.
Police say the Youth Investigations Division received information regarding the allegation. More details emerged in court about allegations against Pena.

Charging documents say the 31-year-old teacher admitted to sending a photo of his private parts via Snapchat to the alleged 10-year-old male victim. He allegedly also asked the victim to send nude photos back but the boy did not.
Pena also admitted to touching the victim's genitals over his pants inside a classroom at the school on more than one occasion, according to court documents.
Pena is being held without bond and will remain in jail until his sentencing on Sept. 4th.
