15-year-old grazed by bullet charged with carjacking, armed robbery

The 15-year-old boy is one of three suspects who reportedly walked up to the victim, who was sitting inside the car, and robbed him at gunpoint.

WASHINGTON — A boy is in the hospital Friday morning recovering from injuries after being shot in Northeast D.C. Police say the injured boy is also one of the people of interest in a carjacking.

Through an initial investigation, DC Police say they believe the shooting stemmed from a 3 a.m. carjacking of a red Toyota Camry with DC tags, which happened on 14th Street Southeast, nearby T Street Southeast.

The 15-year-old boy is one of three suspects who reportedly walked up to the victim, who was sitting inside the car, and robbed him at gunpoint. After the robbery, the boy and two others got into the vehicle and made their way to Benning Road Northeast, near Anacostia Avenue Northeast, where he was grazed in the head by a bullet in the area of a nearby gas station around 3:40 a.m.

The boy was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries which have been described as not being life-threatening. No additional information has been released about him, this includes his age and where he is from. He is said to be the only shooting victim.

Friday evening, police announced the 15-year-old is from Woodbridge, Virginia. He has been charged with armed carjacking, assault with intent to commit robbery, robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon (gun).

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
