Car flips over, crashes into downtown, DC office building

No injuries were reported, but the building is closed until further notice.

WASHINGTON — Cleanup is underway after a car crashed into an office building in downtown, D.C. near the Dupont Circle Metro station Tuesday morning.

DC Fire and EMS rescue workers responded to the 1600 block of Connecticut Avenue, Northwest just after 2 a.m. for a reported crash at a multi-story office building. When they arrived, they found a car flipped on its hood, on the sidewalk after crashing through the ground floor glass window of a business called Cove. Google currently lists the business as temporarily closed, though it was known for being a rentable coworking space for contractors, small business owners or remote workers.

There was no driver found inside the car, nor on the scene, when rescue officials arrived. No injuries have been reported and DC Fire and EMS says a check of the building found no structural integrity issues.

DC Police told WUSA9 they do not believe the car was stolen, but they are searching for two persons of interest -- a driver and passenger who lran aay from the crash scene. No arrests have been made yet, and no further identifying information has been released.

By 4:30 a.m. DC Police had cleared the car away and said Connecticut Avenue southbound had reopened, though glass and debris could still be seen outside the business around 6 a.m. Workers arriving around 8 a.m. were told they couldn't go inside due to building inspections, with a sign posted on the door saying it would be closed until further notice.
