WASHINGTON — Multiple District agencies are still working to identify whoever placed pipe bombs near the Republican and Democratic National Committee headquarters in D.C. three years ago.

The FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), U.S. Capitol Police, and D.C. Police are still offering a reward of $500,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

On January 5, 2021, someone placed pipe bombs in a Capitol Hill neighborhood near the Republican National Committee Headquarters and the Democratic National Committee Headquarters between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. one night before the January 6 Insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

The bombs did not detonate, however, the pipe bombs did have the potential to seriously injure or kill innocent people. The person responsible is still on the loose.

"Over the past three years, a dedicated team of FBI agents, analysts, data scientists, and law enforcement partners has worked thousands of hours conducting interviews, reviewing physical and digital evidence, and assessing tips from the public about who may have placed pipe bombs on Capitol Hill," said David Sundberg, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office.

If you have any information that could help identify the person, please call the FBI at 1-800-Call-FBI or submit tips online. Tips can remain anonymous.
