WASHINGTON — The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) has lifted a boil water advisory Friday morning that was in place for certain parts of Northwest, D.C. The advisory was issued Wednesday after a 115-year-old, 20-inch water main broke, which impacted water pressure across the region.
DC Water lifted the boil water advisory after tests confirmed that drinking water meets all water quality safety standards. DC Water tested water samples from multiple sites in the affected area and has verified that there is no risk of water contamination from the loss of pressure in some portions of the distribution system.
DC Water says the advisory impacted about 4,800 customers in the following neighborhoods:
- Upper Chevy Chase
- Ft. Reno
- American University
- Spring Valley
- Friendship Heights
- Westover Place
- Wakefield
- North Cleveland Park
- Palisades
- Wesley Heights
- Foxhall Crescent
- Foxhall Village
- Hawthorne
- Barnaby Woods
- Chevy Chase
DC Water customers can also search their exact address on the company's interactive map to see if they are impacted.
Customers who live in the previously affected area should run their cold water tap for 10 minutes if water was not used during the advisory period. Food, drinks or ice that was prepared with water that was not boiled during the advisory should be discarded.
Customers with water quality questions should contact the Drinking Water Division at (202) 612-3440 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
All other questions or suggestions should be directed to DC Water Customer Service at 202-354-3600 (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) or the 24-Hour Command Center at 202-612-3400.
