WASHINGTON — Seven people are starting the New Year without a home after a fire broke out at their Northeast D.C. residence.
Officials with DC Fire and EMS posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, just before 9:30 a.m. sharing photos and information about the blaze. Firefighters responded to Foote Street Northeast, nearby 49th Place Northeast, Monday morning to battle the fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from a room on the top floor of a three-story duplex.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but seven residents were displaced -- four children and three adults.
"This was the first significant fire in the District for 2024," the fire department said in a social post.
