GoFundMe helps raise thousands for family who lost home to fire

More than $9,000 has been raised to help the family as of Thursday afternoon.

WASHINGTON — Investigators are trying to determine the cause of an apartment fire in Southeast, D.C. that left six children and one adult displaced on Monday.

Firefighters responded to a report of an apartment fire in the 2600 block of Douglas Road on New Year's Day. At the scene, firefighters noticed that the top floor of the three-story building was engulfed in flames. The fire have since been contained. 

According to DC Fire and EMS, a total of seven people were displaced as a result of the fire. This includes six children and one adult.

So far, no injuries have been reported in connection to the fire.

A GoFundMe has been launched to help the family of seven who got out safely but lost everything in the fire. As of Thursday afternoon, nearly $9,000 has been raised. Click here to visit the GoFundMe. 

The investigation into this apartment fire is active and ongoing.
