WASHINGTON — A 5-year-old military child from D.C. is the newest Mensa member. On April 15, Kaleo Kekuewa-Kwon was accepted into the world's largest and oldest high IQ society. Kaleo is a student at LEARN D.C. on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
He scored in the top 0.01% on the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-Fourth Edition intelligence test. Kaleo's mother, Mailani Kekuewa, said she realized his exceptional learning abilities at a young age. By 15 months old, he knew the entire alphabet. By ages 2 and 3, he could count into the thousands and solve multiplication and division problems.
Kaleo taught himself how to read by age 4. When he's not being a super genius, Kaleo enjoys arts, science, geography, basketball and soccer.
Kaleo has Hawaiian and Korean heritage. As a way to embrace his cultures, he is learning hula and various languages included Korean, and how to play the ukulele.
When Kaleo grows up, he wants to become a scientist or an astronaut to search for aliens. Kaleo starts kindergarten this fall in the D.C. public school system.
