Police will begin to enforce the zones at 8 a.m., and they will continue to be enforced through 7:59 a.m. on Monday, April 8. Signs to notify about the zones were posted 24 hours before the beginning of the enforcement.

    • 1800 block of 6th Street, NW
    • 1800-1900 blocks of 8th Street, NW
  •  In the Sixth District the boundaries are:
    • Starting from 5055 Benning Road, Southeast to the intersection of Benning Road, Southeast and Southern Avenue, Southeast
    • 5000 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast
    • 800 block of 51st Street, Southeast

The drug-free zones are part of the Secure DC Omnibus Emergency Amendment Act of 2024 and are designed to address concerns about public spaces in the District with persistent illegal drug activity. MPD is authorized to temporarily designate a specific area as a drug free zone if it meets certain criteria under the law. Within the zone, officers are authorized to disperse groups of people congregating in the zone for the purpose of illegal drug activity.
