DC approaching deadliest year since 2003, after death of 18-year-old man in Southeast

Wilson’s untimely death now brings DC’s total homicides to 247 as of Monday.

WASHINGTON — D.C. Police are investigating a shooting in Southeast, D.C. that left a young man dead. 

On Sunday evening, officers responded to the 2300 block of Good Hope Road after receiving a call that a man had been found unconscious inside an apartment building. When they arrived at the scene, they found the man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Treyvon Wilson from Northwest, D.C. At this time, police have not released any details about the events leading up to the shooting. 

D.C. Police are asking anyone with any information to please come forward. For those with information, call police at 202-727-9099. If you wish to remain anonymous, text the tip line at 50411. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s) connected to this shooting.

D.C. is close to breaking a 20-year-old record for the deadliest year in the District. In 2003, D.C. saw 248 homicides. When WUSA spoke with D.C. residents, they had mixed emotions about the rise in crime. Some say they feel safe within the city, while others don’t walk alone after certain hours.
