16-year-old boy arrested for carjacking, attempted carjacking in DC

Police say both cases remain under investigation.

WASHINGTON — A teenager was arrested for a pair of armed carjackings in D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department announced the 16-year-old boy's arrest on Friday.

Police say the boy, who has not been identified because he is under the age of 18, first tried to carjack a woman at gunpoint on Jan. 19 right around 1 a.m. Police say the victim was a rideshare driver. She was dropping three people off when they assaulted her, demanded her property and pulled her from her vehicle.

Police say the three suspects were unable to operate the woman's car, so they took off running.

On Feb. 5, around 5 a.m., police say the boy and two other people approached a driver and carjacked him at gunpoint in the 700 block of Brandywine Street Southeast. Police say the trio took property from the man as well.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested on Feb. 8. He was charged with armed carjacking in both cases, according to police.

The cases remain under investigation, and police are still searching for the other two people involved. The police department is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Those with information that could be helpful to investigators should contact them at 202-727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
