WASHINGTON -- A 15-year-old Anacostia High School student is dead after being shot multiple times Thursday afternoon in Southeast, D.C., police said.
Police said the shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. at the Langston Lane Apartments located in the 2900 block of Knox Place in Southeast.
According to D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham, two masked suspects targeted Gerald Watson in the parking lot of the complex and chased him into a stairwell before firing several shots. The suspects then fled on foot.
Newsham said the department's district commander was able to hear the gunshots and rushed to the scene. Watson was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officials plan to review surveillance video of the surrounding areas in order to provide more details on the shooting.
