1 person dead, another hospitalized after crash in Southeast DC

After the crash, one of the drivers ran from the vehicle.

WASHINGTON — One person is dead and another has been hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash in Southeast D.C. late Thursday night.

Just after 10:20 p.m., DC Fire and EMS posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, about a two-vehicle T-bone crash that had just happened. Authorities responded to 25th Street Southeast and Alabama Avenue Southeast after report of a crash with critical injuries.

Upon arrival at the scene, they found both vehicles, as well as two people suffering from critical life-threatening injuries. Early Friday morning, DC Police confirmed to WUSA9 that one of the two people injured had died. The other person remains in the hospital due to their injuries. No identifying information has been released, this includes their names, ages, and where they are from.

Police say one of the drivers involved in the crash ran from the vehicle before they arrived. The police department is actively searching for that driver, but no description of the person of interest has been released.

The investigation into the deadly crash is active and ongoing.
