1 critically injured from apartment fire in Northeast

One man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries sustained in the fire. A firefighter was also taken to the hospital.

WASHINGTON — A man is in the hospital with critical life threatening injuries from an apartment fire in Northeast

DC Fire and EMS deployed multiple crews Sunday afternoon to battle flames in the 4200 block of Benning Road. Officials say the fire involved a two-story apartment building, housing several residents. One man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries sustained in the fire. A firefighter was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. On Monday, WUSA9 learned the firefighter has been released from the hospital, but the condition of the other man hurt is unknown.

The cause of the fire has not been released at this time. The current status of the victim's condition has not been released nor has his identity. 

This is an ongoing investigation as officials work to determine the cause of the fire. We will update you when more information becomes available.
