UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) – Closing arguments are set to begin soon in the trial of the suspect in the Clarion Hotel robbery and murder.
Deandre Weems is accused of shooting and killing hotel worker Jessie Chavez on Oct. 21, 2013. Authorities say Weems was armed with a gun when he demanded cash from an employee at the front desk. Chavez heard the employee scream and ran to help her. As Weems tried to leave, Chavez and Weems got into a fight. During that fight, Weems shot Chavez in the chest, killing him, according to police.

Video surveillance showed the robbery and part of the altercation between Weems and Chavez.
Weems is charged with murder, armed robbery, assault, use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
