Toiling to come up with an idea to replace their Redskin mascot, officials with a high school in San Andreas have finally come to a decision:
There will be no mascot for Calaveras High School.
In bold black, all caps lettering, high school officials posted a link on the school’s website, “BREAKING NEWS: NEW MASCOT RELEASED!”
“By popular vote, Calaveras High School will no longer have a mascot and will be referred to as ‘Calaveras High School’ with the current existing logo,” the news read.
The school will continue to use its logo, which features an American Indian in headdress, but the word Redskins will no longer be used, officials said.
Officials had weighed mascot options ranging from the Calaveras Redhawks, Skulls, Reds and no mascot.
Students and staff will bid farewell to the Redskins mascot at a June 9 rally, officials said.
Calaveras High has more than 1,000 enrolled students in Calaveras County.
