BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Drivers and residents along Bethesda's Route 355 beware. Starting Sunday night, July 13, resurfacing work will begin on MD 355/Wisconsin Avenue. This work is expected to last through late fall, as long as the weather cooperates.
This means you should plan ahead for delays and possible noise.
According to the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) the work will happen during the off-peak commuter hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The work will take place along MD 355 between the stretch that runs from Bradley Lane to Old Georgetown Road.
SHA warns that during the repaving, road crews may close up to two lanes of MD 355. They also say the equipment used for the project "can be loud and disruptive."
"SHA will remove the top layer of pavement, patch, and resurface all traffic lanes and apply new pavement markings to the roadway. The project replaces deteriorated pavement in this section of MD 355," explains a news release by the SHA. "More than 45,000 vehicles use this section of MD 355 daily."
In addition to the above work, during the weekday hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., crews will be pouring concrete for traffic signal poles and sidewalks and sidewalk ramps. SHA says crews may need to close one lane in both directions along MD 355 to do this work.
