ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria police arrested three students in connection with an altercation that occurred at an Alexandria City High School, which resulted in an increased in police presence on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at the Minnie Howard Campus of Alexandria City High School. Officers with the Alexandria Police Department were called to help with "student altercations" at the school.
According to Alexandria City Public Schools, the building was not placed on lockdown, and the status of the building was mistakenly posted on social media channels by some of the members of the school community.
Alexandria Police, school administrators, and building security assured the safety of all students and staff in the building after the altercations.
Once the alterations concluded, the campus resumed its regular schedule at 1:15 p.m., ACPS said in a statement.
ACPS also noted in the letter the school district will continue to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
"When students are involved in altercations on school grounds, ACPS will take immediate and appropriate action to ensure a safe learning environment for the student body and staff," ACPS added in a statement.
"Further, ACPS and school officials will address issues of student conduct and responsibility and, as necessary, involve the APD," ACPS said in a letter. ACPS states the safety of its students and staff is its top priority.
