ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The city of Alexandria is bringing in reinforcements to help with the ever-growing problem of parking in Old Town.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, fresh enforcement will begin for parking violators.
In a new pilot program, the Alexandria Police Department has partnered with a third-party vendor, Reimagine Parking, to enforce parking in Old Town, primarily along King Street. Reimagine Parking has been hired to supplement the city's existing parking enforcement officers.
Officials say the contractors are allowed to issue citations only from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., Monday through Friday. They do not have powers to tow, relocate, or boot vehicles. All Reimagne Parking personnel will be visible and uniformly dressed, including wearing yellow reflective vests noting they are contractors for the City of Alexandria. The contractors will also display company-issued identification and a company-branded shirt.
Officials say the goal is to streamline parking in this corridor and offer police some help.
