ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Two high school students are in custody after a gun went off inside a McDonald's bathroom in Alexandria on Tuesday. Both have been charged by police.
At noon, officers with the Fairfax County Police Department responded to the McDonald's located at 5600 Franconia Road in Rose Hill for the report of a gunshot inside the bathroom of the fast food restaurant. No one was injured and several teenagers were seen leaving the restaurant after the gun went off.
A witness provided officers with a description of a car last seen leaving the scene of the shooting. Officers were able to quickly locate the car and take a high school student into custody for the shooting.
Further investigation revealed the students attended Edison High School and one student returned to the school after the gun went off. Fairfax County officers worked with the SRO at Edison to locate the involved student and took him into custody at 2:11 p.m.
Officers worked with the FCPS security to review surveillance footage. During this review, the high school student was seen entering a bathroom. A search of this bathroom revealed a gun concealed above a ceiling tile. The teenager was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm on school property. A second teenager was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, brandishing, and reckless charge of a firearm. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the discharge in the McDonald's bathroom.
