WASHINGTON — An 18-year-old Howard University student has died after he was hit by a car near the School of Business last week.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the crash happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11.
Investigators say an Audi sedan was speeding northbound on 6th Street, NW from Howard Place, NW. The Audi then hit a parked car but continued on 6th St. later mounting the curb while trying to turn left onto Fairmont Street, NW, and hitting 18-year-old Mohamed Samura.
Samura was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. He died four days later. The driver was also minorly injured in the crash and has not yet been identified. A spokesperson said the driver was a faculty member.
The Howard University Student Association and Undergraduate Student Assembly said Samura was a beloved student and a valued member of the Howard community, as well as an award-winning E-sports Team member and School of Business Dean list recipient.
