SPRINGFIELD, Va. -- Fairfax County firefighters are battling a blaze at a home with severe hoarding conditions that injured one person, officials said.
Crews were called shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday on a report of a fire in the 6000 block of Flanders Street in the Springfield area, officials said. Arriving firefighters saw heavy fire and smoke showing from a single-family dwelling, officials said.
One person was taken to the Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
Animal Control was also called for several dogs at the home. The dogs were not injured.
Fairfax County Fire Capt. Willie F. Bailey said once firefighters got inside the home they encountered severe hoarding conditions.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
