1 dead in crash on Indian Head Hwy. in Ft. Washington

Prince George's Co. Police are investigating a violent head-on crash that has left one person dead in Fort Washington.

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (WUSA) -- Prince George's County Police are investigating a violent head-on crash that has left one person dead in Fort Washington.

Officer Nicole Hubbard, spokeswoman for the Prince George's County Police Department, says the collision occurred when a Cadillac heading south on Indian Head Highway (Rt. 210) inexplicably crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a silver BMW near Livingston Road around 2:40 a.m.

According to Officer Hubbard, the driver of the silver BMW was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man driving the Cadillac is in serious condition, but is expected to survive.

The victim is identified as 27-year-old Cody Lowry, of Cobb Island Road in Newburg, Md.

Monday morning, an accident reconstruction team was working to figure out how and why the crash occurred. The ongoing investigation shut down the northbound lanes of Indian Head Highway at Livingston Road. They reopened around 7:30 a.m.
