WASHINGTON -- DMV-area students were announced as the winners of a round of "Google for Doodle," a competition to get student artwork on the Google homepage for a day.

The three students from the DMV will now have their artwork judged nationally against students from across the 53 states and territories participating, a press release said.

Skylar Ogunshakin is a seventh grader from School Without Walls in D.C. She's the D.C. winner with her doodle, "Skylar's World, Blue Skies and Sunshine!"

The Maryland winner is Maggie Slaughter, a ninth grader from Northwest High School in Germantown. Her doodle was titled, "A New Reality."

The doodles were selected from thousands of entries submitted.

Anyone can vote for their favorite doodle from June 3-7. The public vote will determine the five national finalists -- one in each age group.

In addition to their doodle being portrayed on the Google homepage for a day, the national winner will also take home a $30,000 college scholarship, the release said. The winner's school will also receive $50,000 tech package toward the improvement or establishment of a computer lab or technology program.
