WASHINGTON — It's really REALLY hot outside. Like, so hot actually, that Washington D.C. has activated the heat emergency plan through Monday, July 22 at 9 a.m., according to a release.
Forecasts show the District - and surrounding areas - will see temps in the mid to upper 90s, with heat index values above 100 this weekend.
WUSA9's weather team issued a Red Weather Alert, due to the excessive heat watch issued starting at 10 a.m. Friday and going through 10 p.m. Sunday. We are expecting heat index values 105 to 115 across the area.
There's also the chance of a stray storm this weekend, mainly Sunday.
According to a release from Mayor Muriel Bowser, D.C. will extend the hours at some outside pools and splash parks. They will be open until 9 p.m. and will open an hour early Saturday and Sunday.
